From his graduate years at CUNY, Liu began developing a new artistic approach blending Chinese and Western traditions. This exploration led to his original and patented technique, “Flowing Colors Oil Painting.” He holds U.S., Chinese, and Hong Kong patents for his artistic inventions, including:

He is the only Chinese-American artist granted a U.S. patent in the art field.
For more than two decades, Arthur B. Liu has actively participated in international exhibitions and competitions, winning numerous awards. Notable honors include the Gold Award at the World Peace Contest (Houston, 2001), recognition as one of the “Top Ten Most Influential Painters” at the Beijing International Art Expo (2008), the Golden Award at the Shanghai International Art Expo (2010), and the Prize for Work of Excellence at the Guangzhou International Art Expo (2010).
He was also awarded the 2013 Ellis Island Medal of Honor and became the first recipient of the “Chun Hui Cup,” the top cultural prize established for overseas scholars by multiple Chinese national ministries.
Through lifelong research, innovation, and dedication to art education, Arthur B. Liu stands distinguished as an accomplished educator, internationally awarded artist, and pioneering inventor.

刘比华(Arthur B. Liu)出生于书香世家,父亲刘寿强为著名书法家与刻字家,从教近七十年。1980年毕业于广州师范学院美术系并留校任教,后赴广州美术学院进修。1984年赴美深造,1990年获纽约市立大学(City College of CUNY)美术硕士学位。曾任美国皇后区艺术中心主任、纽约华人文化艺术协会会长等职,长期致力于中美艺术文化交流。
刘比华幼承家学,擅长水彩与油画创作,融合中西艺术表现方法,形成独具特色的艺术语言。其作品多次在国际展览中获奖,包括“世界和平美术奖”“大禹奖”等。作品曾被美国、加拿大、法国等地收藏,并在国内外多城市举办个展。
除艺术创作外,刘比华在艺术教育领域耕耘三十余年,培养学生遍及世界各地,多人考入世界知名艺术院校。他创办纽约皇后区艺术中心,致力于推广艺术教育与文化交流。
在艺术创新方面,他发明“流彩油画”“多彩铅笔”“太极剑笔”等,并获美国、中国及香港专利。其《绘画学中文/英文教材》《多彩铅笔中国画》等系列教材已出版发行,广受好评。其创新理念融合传统与现代,强调基础训练与创造表达并重。

Mr. Liu Bihua, also known as Arthur B. Liu, is President of Queens Art Education Center in New York. He serves as a visiting professor of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, member of the Watercolor Society of USA and the National Art League of USA, director of the Chinese Culture Art Association of New York, and member of Lions Clubs International.Born into a scholarly family, his father Liu Shou Qiang was a renowned calligrapher and educator for nearly 70 years.
In 1980, Arthur B. Liu graduated with honors from the Fine Arts Department of Guangzhou Normal Institute and remained as a faculty member. He later pursued further study at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts before coming to the United States in 1984. In 1990, he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the City College of CUNY.In 1998, he founded Queens Art Education Center, the first Chinese professional art school in New York. With over 30 years of teaching experience, he has educated thousands of students from around the world and authored multiple art textbooks, including the copyrighted Learning Chinese/English Through Drawing, with additional drawing-based language series in progress.
